Printing tipsThe story behind the craft
Bible passage: 1 Samuel 3:1–21
Samuel hears his name at night and repeatedly runs to Eli. Eli eventually realises God is calling the boy and helps Samuel respond; Samuel then has a difficult message to share.
Main takeaway: Samuel learns to listen with help from someone more experienced.
While you use the cards
Read one question at a time and look back at the passage when an answer needs explaining.
Follow each call and Samuel’s response. Distinguish the Bible’s account of God calling Samuel from ordinary noises or someone’s private thoughts today.
Allow younger learners a partner or an oral answer. Older learners can explain the evidence for an answer rather than relying only on the answer guide.
Questions to explore
- Who did Samuel first think was calling?
- How did Eli help him?
- Why can asking a trusted adult help us understand something unfamiliar?
