Joseph and His Colourful Coat

A story about family, hard times and forgiveness.

Genesis 37; 39; 41; 45About 2 minutes
Let’s begin

Jacob gave his son Joseph a special coat. Joseph’s brothers were jealous.

What happened next

His brothers sold him, and Joseph was taken to Egypt. Joseph faced many difficult days, but God was with him.

What happened next

Years later, Joseph was put in charge of storing food in Egypt. During seven years of plenty, he gathered grain in the cities. Then the years of famine began. When people cried out for bread, Pharaoh told them to go to Joseph. Joseph opened the storehouses and sold grain. People from other lands came to Egypt for food too.

What happened next

Joseph’s brothers were among those who came to Egypt. At last, Joseph could no longer hold back his feelings. He sent his attendants out of the room and wept loudly. Then he told his brothers that he was Joseph. They were so troubled that they could not answer him.

What happened next

Joseph asked them to come near. He said he was the brother they had sold into Egypt. But he told them not to be angry with themselves. He believed God had sent him ahead to preserve life. The famine had already lasted two years, and five more years were still to come.

The end

Joseph asked his brothers to bring their father and families to Egypt, where he would provide for them. He embraced Benjamin and wept, then kissed all his brothers and wept with them. Afterwards they talked together. When Jacob heard the news and saw the wagons Joseph had sent, his spirit revived. His son was alive!
