Printing tips

The story behind the craft

Bible passage: John 2:1–11

At a wedding in Cana, the wine runs out. Mary alerts Jesus, the servants fill stone jars with water and Jesus turns the water into wine; John presents this as the first sign revealing his glory.

Main takeaway: The Cana sign directs attention to who Jesus is.

While you colour the panels

Read the panels in order, pausing at a change in a character’s action or understanding.

Follow the servants’ actions with the jars and the steward’s surprise. Keep the emphasis on the sign and the wedding’s need rather than a pretend-drinking activity.

Younger learners can describe an action in one panel. Older learners can compare a caption with its Bible passage and discuss what a short comic leaves out.

Questions to explore

  • What problem arose at the wedding?
  • What did the servants do?
  • Why does John call this event a sign?

Common questions

What files are included in this download?

The download is a 1-page PDF: JesusTurnsWaterintoWine_John2.pdf. This is the English edition. You print the files yourself; physical supplies are not included.

Is this a comic to read or a colouring sheet?

Printed captions include “The hosts run out of wine, and everyone starts to worry” and “Jesus and His disciples are at a joyful wedding in Cana”.

Which pages should I print, and at what size?

The original PDF pages are A4 portrait. JesusTurnsWaterintoWine_John2.pdf: print the page for each learner or group. Print single-sided. On US Letter paper, select Letter and Fit or shrink to the printable area; the originals are not separate Letter-sized files.
