Getting ready
Age & adult help
The reviewed preview shows a folding story strip, so the construction is closer to a fold-out story than a simple leaf cut-out.
Prepare awkward cuts and demonstrate the story folds. Read the captions aloud where needed.
What you’ll need
Printer, paper, colouring pencils or crayons, scissors. Confirm the template before adding glue, tape or a handle.
Time & preparation
One Palm Sunday craft, including colouring and cutting. Teaching time is additional.
Age is an editorial estimate for the motor and reading demands of this format. Difficulty, completion time and suggested tools are planning estimates, not build-tested.
Check the file before you print for a group, and allow for any extra help the kids might need.
Printing tipsThe story behind the craft
Bible passage: Matthew 21:1–11
Jesus enters Jerusalem riding a donkey. Crowds spread cloaks and branches on the road and shout praise, while the city asks who he is.
Main takeaway: Palm Sunday presents Jesus arriving as a different kind of king.
As you unfold the Palm Sunday story
Reveal the story sections and connect Jesus’ arrival with the crowd’s welcome.
Connect the donkey, road, branches and crowd’s words. Explain that the passage names branches; the palm detail appears in John 12.
Younger learners can retell the arrival with picture support. Older learners can compare the welcome in Matthew 21 with the palm-branch detail in John 12.
Questions to explore
- How did Jesus enter the city?
- What did the crowd do?
- How does this arrival differ from a display of military power?
Common questions
What files are included in this download?
The download is a 3-page PDF: PalmSunday-Story.pdf. This is the English edition. You print the files yourself; physical supplies are not included.
Is this a rotating wheel or a folding craft?
The supplied instructions show a folding strip attached to a circular cover. Colour and cut the pieces, fold the strip on the marked lines, then glue its top and bottom ends to the cover as indicated. Open it to reveal the story or writing sections; this version does not need a spinner fastener. For a Bible reading to accompany this activity, use Matthew 21:1–11.
Which pages should I print, and at what size?
The original PDF pages are A4 portrait. PalmSunday-Story.pdf: print pages 2, 3 for each learner or group. Page 1 is the assembly guide, which can be shared. Print single-sided. On US Letter paper, select Letter and Fit or shrink to the printable area; the originals are not separate Letter-sized files.
What supplies and preparation does this need?
Paper, colouring pencils, scissors and glue. Help make the strip folds and attach the ends without gluing the opening sections shut.
What help might children need with this activity?
Suggested ages: 6–10 years. Help with the cover cuts, concertina folds and gluing the marked ends. Read the story or writing prompts aloud where needed. Adjust this guide for the child’s reading and making skills.
