Printing tips

The story behind the craft

Bible passage: Matthew 20:1–16

A landowner hires workers at different times and pays them the agreed daily wage. Those who worked longer object when late arrivals receive the same, and the owner explains his freedom to be generous.

Main takeaway: The workers’ parable challenges comparison and resentment at generosity.

Before you assemble the story

Lay out the illustrated circles and discuss their order before turning them into the finished paper craft.

Compare the hiring times, the agreed pay and the complaints. Distinguish this kingdom parable from a complete policy for wages or working conditions.

Younger learners can match a spoken event to a picture. Older learners can retell the account from different sections and check it against the passage.

Questions to explore

  • What had the first workers agreed to receive?
  • What upset them at payment time?
  • Why can comparing ourselves with others make generosity difficult to enjoy?

Common questions

What files are included in this download?

The download is a 4-page PDF: ParableoftheWorkersintheVineyard.pdf. This is the English edition. You print the files yourself; physical supplies are not included.

How do I assemble the flip story?

Colour and cut the illustrated circles, fold them in half and glue successive blank halves together in story order. Attach the first and last sections to the marked cover/base. Let the glue dry before flipping through the pages. For a Bible reading to accompany this activity, use Matthew 20:1–16.

Which pages should I print, and at what size?

The original PDF pages are A4 portrait. ParableoftheWorkersintheVineyard.pdf: print pages 1, 2, 3 for each learner or group. Page 4 is the assembly guide, which can be shared. Print single-sided. On US Letter paper, select Letter and Fit or shrink to the printable area; the originals are not separate Letter-sized files.
