Aaron and His Sons Become Priests
Moses gathered the people and carried out the ceremony Yahweh had commanded to set Aaron and his sons apart for priestly service.
Yahweh told Moses to bring Aaron, Aaron’s sons, the priestly garments, the anointing oil, the bull for the sin offering, the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread. Moses assembled the congregation at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and told them this was what Yahweh had commanded to be done.
Moses washed Aaron and dressed him in the sacred garments piece by piece. He placed the breastplate on him, put the Urim and Thummim in it, and set the turban and holy crown on his head. Then Moses anointed the tabernacle, its furnishings, the altar, and Aaron, setting them apart as holy.
Next Moses clothed Aaron’s sons in their garments. Then the offerings began. Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the bull of the sin offering, and Moses put its blood on the altar, poured out the rest at its base, and burned the parts Yahweh had appointed. After that he offered the ram for the burnt offering as Yahweh had commanded.
Then Moses brought the second ram, the ram of consecration. Aaron and his sons laid their hands on it. Moses put some of its blood on Aaron’s right ear, right thumb, and right big toe, and he did the same to Aaron’s sons. He placed parts of the offering and bread into their hands to wave before Yahweh, then burned them on the altar.
Moses sprinkled some of the anointing oil and blood on Aaron and his garments, and on his sons and their garments, to set them apart. He told them to eat the consecration meal at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and to stay there day and night for seven days, keeping Yahweh’s command. Aaron and his sons did all that Yahweh had commanded through Moses.
