Aaron's Death on Mount Hor
At Mount Hor, Aaron's garments are placed on Eleazar before Aaron dies and Israel mourns for him.
The people of Israel travelled on from Kadesh and came to Mount Hor, by the border of Edom. There the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron. He said that Aaron would not enter the land he was giving to Israel, because of the rebellion at the waters of Meribah.
The Lord told Moses to take Aaron and his son Eleazar up Mount Hor. Moses was to remove Aaron's garments and put them on Eleazar. Aaron would be gathered to his people and die there on the mountain.
Moses did what the Lord commanded. In the sight of all the congregation, Moses, Aaron, and Eleazar went up Mount Hor. On the top of the mountain, Moses removed Aaron's garments and put them on Eleazar, and Aaron died there.
Then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain. When all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, all the house of Israel wept for him for thirty days. The people grieved the loss of Aaron together.
