Abraham's Final Years and Burial
In his final years, Abraham arranged his household, and after his death Isaac and Ishmael buried him beside Sarah.
In Abraham’s later years, he took another wife, Keturah. She bore him sons, and the passage briefly names more of their family line before turning to Abraham’s last days.
Abraham made arrangements for his family. He gave all that he had to Isaac. To the sons of his concubines he gave gifts, and while he was still alive he sent them away from Isaac, eastward to the east country.
The Bible then sums up Abraham’s life. He lived 175 years. He died at a good old age, an old man full of years, and he was gathered to his people.
After Abraham died, Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite, near Mamre.
This was the field Abraham had purchased from the children of Heth. He was buried there with Sarah his wife. After Abraham’s death, God blessed Isaac, and Isaac lived by Beer Lahai Roi. What do you notice about the way this passage marks Abraham’s ending and Isaac’s new beginning?
