David Prepares for the Temple
David gathered supplies, instructed Solomon, and led Israel's leaders in generous preparation for God's house.
David recognised the place for God's house and the altar for Israel. He ordered workers to gather and shape stone, and he prepared iron, bronze, timber, and cedar. Because Solomon was still young, and the house for the Lord was to be exceedingly magnificent, David made great preparations before his death.
Then David called Solomon and commanded him to build a house for the Lord, the God of Israel. David said he had wanted to build it himself, but God told him he would not build it because he had fought wars and shed much blood. Instead, God had chosen Solomon, a son of peace, to build it.
David prayed that Solomon would have discretion and understanding to keep the Lord's law. He told him to be strong and courageous. David had already prepared huge stores of gold, silver, bronze, iron, timber, and stone, and many skilled workers were available. He also commanded Israel's leaders to help Solomon and set their hearts on seeking the Lord.
Later David assembled the leaders in Jerusalem. He declared that God had chosen Solomon to sit on the throne and to build the sanctuary. David urged Solomon to know and serve God with a whole heart and willing mind, because the Lord searches every heart. Then he gave Solomon the plans for the temple, its rooms, courts, treasuries, vessels, and altar.
David told Solomon again to be strong and do the work, because God would be with him until it was finished. He said the priests, Levites, skilled workers, leaders, and people were ready to help. Then David told the assembly about all he had prepared, including gifts from his own treasure. The leaders offered willingly, people gave precious stones, and everyone rejoiced together.
