Jesus Heals an Official's Son
In Galilee, Jesus spoke a life-giving word for a sick child far away in Capernaum.
After two days, Jesus went into Galilee. He had said that a prophet has no honour in his own country. Yet when he arrived, the Galileans welcomed him because they had seen what he did in Jerusalem at the feast. He came again to Cana, where he had made water into wine.
There was an official whose son was sick in Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, he went to Jesus and begged him to come down and heal his son, because the boy was close to death.
Jesus answered with a sharp warning: people wanted signs and wonders before they would believe. But the father kept asking, pleading for Jesus to come before his child died. Jesus told him to go on his way and said that his son would live.
The man believed what Jesus said and started home. On the way, his servants met him with the news that his child was alive. Then the father asked them what hour his son had begun to get better.
They told him that the fever left yesterday at the seventh hour. Then the father knew it was the very hour when Jesus had said, 'Your son lives.' He believed, and his whole household believed too. John says this was the second sign Jesus did after coming from Judea into Galilee.

A children’s retelling of John 4:43–54. You can read the Bible passage together too.
This account in John is distinct from the story of the centurion's servant in the other Gospels. Here the sick person is an official's son, and the setting is Cana and Capernaum in John 4.
