Joseph's Final Promise and Death

At the end of Genesis, Joseph speaks of God's future help and asks his family to remember his bones when they leave Egypt.

Genesis 50:22–26About 2 minutes
Let’s begin

Joseph lived in Egypt for many years, along with his father's family. He lived to be 110 years old. Before he died, he saw his family continue into later generations. He saw Ephraim's children to the third generation, and Machir's children were welcomed on Joseph's knees.

What happened next

As Joseph came near death, he spoke to his brothers. He reminded them that Egypt would not be their home forever. Joseph trusted that God would surely come to them and bring them up from that land to the land God had sworn to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

What happened next

Then Joseph made the children of Israel take an oath. He said that when God surely came to them, they must carry his bones up from there. Even at the end of his life, Joseph was looking ahead to what God had promised to do.

The end

Joseph died at the age of 110. They embalmed him and placed him in a coffin in Egypt. So Genesis closes with Joseph still in Egypt, waiting in hope for God's future faithfulness. What do you notice about Joseph's trust in God's promise?
