Joshua Meets the Commander of the Lord's Army

Near Jericho, Joshua met a man with a drawn sword and learned he was standing on holy ground.

Joshua 5:13–15About 1 minute
Let’s begin

Joshua was near Jericho when he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went to him and asked, “Are you on our side, or on the side of our enemies?”

What happened next

The man answered that he had now come as the commander of the Lord’s army. Joshua fell facedown to the ground in worship and asked what his lord wanted to say to his servant.

The end

The commander of the Lord’s army told Joshua to take off his sandals, because the place where he was standing was holy. Joshua obeyed. This short meeting shows Joshua responding with reverence and readiness to listen.
