Joshua's Final Days and Burial

Joshua’s life closes with burial, remembrance, and a note that Israel served Yahweh in those days.

Joshua 24:29–33; Judges 2:6–9About 2 minutes
Let’s begin

After these things, Joshua son of Nun, the servant of Yahweh, died at the age of 110. Judges also recalls that Joshua had sent the people away, and the people of Israel each went to their inheritance to possess the land.

What happened next

Joshua was buried within the border of his inheritance at Timnathserah, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of the mountain of Gaash. Judges repeats this burial notice and calls the place Timnath Heres.

What happened next

Israel served Yahweh all the days of Joshua. They also served Yahweh in the days of the elders who lived longer than Joshua, because those elders had known and seen the great work Yahweh had done for Israel.

What happened next

The bones of Joseph, which the people of Israel had brought up from Egypt, were buried at Shechem. They were laid in the piece of ground Jacob had bought from the sons of Hamor, and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.

The end

Eleazar son of Aaron also died. He was buried in the hill of Phinehas his son, in the hill country of Ephraim. These closing verses remember where Joshua, Joseph’s bones, and Eleazar were laid to rest.
