Saul Escapes from Damascus
After Saul began preaching that Jesus is the Son of God, enemies plotted against him, but believers helped him escape and welcomed him in Jerusalem.
Right away, Saul began speaking in the synagogues. He announced that Jesus is the Son of God. People were amazed. They remembered what Saul had done in Jerusalem to those who called on Jesus' name, and they knew he had come to Damascus planning to take believers bound to the chief priests.
Saul did not stop. He grew stronger and kept showing the Jews living in Damascus that Jesus is the Christ. After many days, some of them made a plan to kill him. They watched the city gates day and night so they could catch him.
Saul learned about the plot. During the night, his disciples helped him escape. They lowered him in a basket through the wall. The danger was real, and these believers acted bravely to help him get away.
When Saul came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples. They were afraid of him and did not believe he really was a disciple. Then Barnabas took him to the apostles and explained that Saul had seen the Lord on the way, that the Lord had spoken to him, and that in Damascus Saul had preached boldly in Jesus' name.
After that, Saul was with the believers in Jerusalem, going in and out among them. He preached boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus and argued with the Hellenists. When they also tried to kill him, the brothers took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus. Who helped Saul when others were afraid of him?
