The Hidden Treasure and the Pearl

Jesus told two brief parables to show the great value of the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 13:44–46About 1 minute
Let’s begin

Jesus told two short parables about the kingdom of heaven. Each one shows a person who discovers something of great value and then gives up everything he has to gain it.

What happened next

First, Jesus said the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. A man found the treasure and hid it again. Then, filled with joy, he sold all he had and bought that field.

What happened next

Then Jesus said the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. He was searching for pearls of great worth.

The end

When the merchant found one pearl of great value, he sold all he had and bought it. In both parables, Jesus showed the kingdom of heaven as worth more than everything these men owned. What do these pictures teach about true treasure?
