The Shunammite Woman’s Land Is Restored

After seven years away, a woman returned to ask the king for her home and land, and he ordered that all of it be restored to her.

2 Kings 8:1–6About 2 minutes
Let’s begin

Elisha had earlier restored this woman’s son to life. Later, he warned her that the LORD had called for a famine on the land, and that it would last seven years. He told her to rise, take her household, and stay wherever she could for a time.

What happened next

The woman did what the man of God said. She went with her household and lived in the land of the Philistines for seven years.

What happened next

At the end of those seven years, she returned from Philistine territory. Then she went to the king to beg for her house and her land.

What happened next

At that moment, the king was speaking with Gehazi, the servant of the man of God. He had asked to hear about the great things Elisha had done. Gehazi was telling him how Elisha had restored a dead boy to life.

What happened next

Just then, the woman came to ask for her house and land. Gehazi said, in effect, that this was the woman and this was the son Elisha had restored to life. The king asked the woman, and she told him her story.

The end

So the king appointed an officer for her. He ordered that everything belonging to her be restored, including all the produce of the field from the day she left the land until now. After many years away, she received back what was hers.
