Printing tipsThe story behind the craft
Bible passage: Matthew 3:13–17
Jesus comes to John at the Jordan to be baptised. As Jesus comes out of the water, the Spirit descends like a dove and a voice from heaven calls him God’s beloved Son.
Main takeaway: Jesus’ baptism reveals his identity as God’s beloved Son.
As you open the story book
Open the folds gradually, using the revealed sections to retell the account.
Distinguish John, Jesus, the dove and the voice from heaven. Read the passage alongside the pictures rather than treating every symbol as a separate character.
An adult can read one section while a younger child points to its picture. Older learners can close the book, retell it and reopen it to check the sequence.
Questions to explore
- Who baptised Jesus?
- What happened as Jesus came out of the water?
- What does the voice tell us about Jesus?
Common questions
What files are included in this download?
The download is a 19-page PDF: JesusBaptismCraftBundle.pdf. This is the English edition. You print the files yourself; physical supplies are not included.
Which activities are inside the Baptism bundle?
This 19-page PDF combines four story bookmarks, a five-panel folding book, six colouring sheets, picture-change strips, a door hanger, a circular-cover fold-out and praying-hands story pieces. It is a mixed activity bundle, rather than just one accordion book. The picture-change strips on page 11 have no separate A–J backing in this bundle; prepare a matching backing yourself if using that activity.
Which pages should I print, and at what size?
The original PDF pages are A4 landscape. Choose an activity: page 1 for bookmarks; pages 2–3 for the folding book; pages 4–9 for colouring; pages 10–11 for the picture-change strips; pages 12–13 for the hanger; pages 14–16 for the circular fold-out; or pages 17–19 for the praying hands. Instruction pages 2, 10, 12 and 17 can be shared. The picture-change activity needs a separately prepared backing. Print single-sided. On US Letter paper, select Letter and Fit or shrink to the printable area; the originals are not separate Letter-sized files. Keep matching construction pages at the same scale.
What supplies and preparation does this need?
Paper, colouring pencils, scissors and glue. Select one activity before printing. An adult can prepare the door-handle opening, story folds and hand outlines.
What help might children need with this activity?
Choose the activity to suit the learner: the colouring sheets and bookmarks have fewer construction steps, while the fold-outs and praying hands need careful folds and joining. Adult preparation is useful for younger children. One age estimate cannot describe every activity in this mixed bundle.
