What you’ll need
Printer, paper, colouring pencils or crayons. An adult reader may be helpful for younger children.
Time & preparation
One comic page, including colouring. Shared reading and discussion are additional.
Age is an editorial estimate for the motor and reading demands of this format. Difficulty, completion time and suggested tools are planning estimates, not build-tested.
Check the file before you print for a group, and allow for any extra help the kids might need.
Printing tipsThe story behind the craft
Bible passage: 2 Samuel 24
David orders a census despite Joab’s objections and later acknowledges wrongdoing. A plague follows; David pleads for the people and builds an altar at the threshing floor as the crisis ends.
Main takeaway: David’s account connects responsibility, repentance and concern for those affected by a leader’s choices.
While you colour the panels
Read the panels in order, pausing at a change in a character’s action or understanding.
Follow the census, David’s confession and the threshing-floor altar. Avoid suggesting that counting people itself is always wrong or that illness proves someone has sinned.
Younger learners can describe an action in one panel. Older learners can compare a caption with its Bible passage and discuss what a short comic leaves out.
Questions to explore
- What warning did David hear?
- How did he respond when he recognised wrong?
- Why must leaders consider the effects of their decisions on others?
