Getting ready
Age & adult help
Straight trimming is simple; understanding and discussing the printed verses is the larger demand.
Prepare the bookmarks if needed and read or discuss each verse together.
What you’ll need
Printer, paper or light card, colouring pencils or crayons for colour-in designs, scissors. A laminator is optional.
Time & preparation
One standard four-bookmark set, including colouring and cutting. Verse practice is additional.
Age is an editorial estimate for the motor and reading demands of this format. Difficulty, completion time and suggested tools are planning estimates, not build-tested.
Check the file before you print for a group, and allow for any extra help the kids might need.
Printing tipsThe story behind the craft
Bible passage: Genesis 6:9–9:17
Suggested verses to explore: Genesis 6:14
Noah builds the ark as God instructs. His family and the animals survive the flood, and afterwards God makes a covenant with living creatures, giving the rainbow as its sign.
Main takeaway: The rainbow in Noah’s story is a reminder of God’s covenant.
While you colour
Read one featured verse aloud and ask learners to connect its meaning with the bookmark picture.
Put building, entering the ark, the flood, dry land and the rainbow in order. Distinguish the animals being rescued from the promise made afterwards.
Younger learners can name visible details while an adult reads. Older learners can look up the verse and read the sentences around it before explaining its meaning.
Questions to explore
- Why was the ark needed?
- What happened before the rainbow appeared?
- What does God promise in Genesis 9?
Common questions
What files are included in this download?
The download is a 2-page PDF: NoahsArk.pdf. This is the English edition. You print the files yourself; physical supplies are not included.
Are the picture fronts and verse backs separate?
Yes. The two-page PDF has four picture fronts and four matching verse backs. Colour the fronts, match each picture to its verse and cut the pieces apart. You can glue matching fronts and backs together to make four double-sided bookmarks. For a Bible reading to accompany this activity, use Genesis 6:9–9:17. The designs are listed as: Genesis 6:14: Build the Ark; Genesis 7:20: The Flood Waters Rise; Genesis 8:8: The Dove and Dry Land; Genesis 9:13: God’s Rainbow Promise.
Which pages should I print, and at what size?
The original PDF pages are A4 landscape. NoahsArk.pdf: print the pages you want to use for each learner or group. Print single-sided. On US Letter paper, select Letter and Fit or shrink to the printable area; the originals are not separate Letter-sized files. Keep matching construction pages at the same scale. Print both pages for the four front-and-back designs. If you choose duplex printing instead of gluing, test your printer’s alignment on scrap paper first.
What supplies and preparation does this need?
Paper or printer-compatible light card, colouring pencils, scissors and glue if you join the fronts and backs. Lamination is optional.
What help might children need with this activity?
Suggested ages: 6–12 years. Prepare the bookmarks if needed and read or discuss each verse together. Adjust this guide for the child’s reading and making skills.
