Getting ready

Age & adult help

Following several illustrated panels and reading speech or story text adds a literacy demand to the colouring.

Read panels aloud and help children follow their order. Check the story and wording before using it with younger children.

What you’ll need

Printer, paper, colouring pencils or crayons. An adult reader may be helpful for younger children.

Time & preparation

One comic page, including colouring. Shared reading and discussion are additional.

Check the file before you print for a group, and allow for any extra help the kids might need.

Printing tips

The story behind the craft

Bible passage: Matthew 6:5–13

Jesus teaches prayer that is sincere rather than performed for applause. His model includes honouring God, asking for daily needs, forgiveness and guidance.

Main takeaway: Prayer can use ordinary, honest words about worship, needs and relationships.

While you colour the panels

Read the panels in order, pausing at a change in a character’s action or understanding.

Choose one prayer category from the activity and give a concrete example. Children may draw, listen quietly or speak; a public performance is not required.

Younger learners can describe an action in one panel. Older learners can compare a caption with its Bible passage and discuss what a short comic leaves out.

Questions to explore

  • What can we thank God for?
  • What need could we bring today?
  • How can we pray for someone else without sharing their private information?

Common questions

What files are included in this download?

The download is a 1-page PDF: PrayerActionsHowtoPray.pdf. This is the English edition. You print the files yourself; physical supplies are not included.

Is this a comic to read or a colouring sheet?

It combines both on one page: outlined comic panels with story captions. Read the panels in sequence, then colour and talk about the illustrated moments. It is a flat printable, with no paper mechanism to assemble. Printed captions include “We can pray anywhere, anytime, and about anything” and “We learn about prayer and how to talk to God”.

Which pages should I print, and at what size?

The original PDF pages are A4 portrait. PrayerActionsHowtoPray.pdf: print the page for each learner or group. Print single-sided. On US Letter paper, select Letter and Fit or shrink to the printable area; the originals are not separate Letter-sized files.

What supplies and preparation does this need?

Printer paper and colouring pencils or crayons. An adult can read the captions and help children follow the order of the panels.

What help might children need with this activity?
