Getting ready
Age & adult help
Straight trimming is simple; understanding and discussing the printed verses is the larger demand.
Prepare the bookmarks if needed and read or discuss each verse together.
What you’ll need
Printer, paper or light card, colouring pencils or crayons for colour-in designs, scissors. A laminator is optional.
Time & preparation
One standard four-bookmark set, including colouring and cutting. Verse practice is additional.
Age is an editorial estimate for the motor and reading demands of this format. Difficulty, completion time and suggested tools are planning estimates, not build-tested.
Check the file before you print for a group, and allow for any extra help the kids might need.
Printing tipsThe story behind the craft
Bible passage: Luke 10:25–37
Suggested verses to explore: Luke 10:30, Luke 10:31, Luke 10:33, Luke 10:37
Jesus tells of an injured traveller ignored by two passers-by. A Samaritan stops, tends his wounds, brings him to an inn and pays for his care; Jesus tells his listener to show that same mercy.
Main takeaway: Being a neighbour means showing practical mercy.
While you colour
Read one featured verse aloud and ask learners to connect its meaning with the bookmark picture.
Compare passing by with stopping, bandaging, carrying and paying. Ask which actions required time, attention or resources.
Younger learners can name visible details while an adult reads. Older learners can look up the verse and read the sentences around it before explaining its meaning.
Questions to explore
- Who stopped to help?
- What did caring for the traveller involve?
- What is a safe, practical way we could help a neighbour?
Common questions
What files are included in this download?
The download is a 2-page PDF: GoodSamaritan.pdf. This is the English edition. You print the files yourself; physical supplies are not included.
Are the picture fronts and verse backs separate?
Yes. The two-page PDF has four picture fronts and four matching verse backs. Colour the fronts, match each picture to its verse and cut the pieces apart. You can glue matching fronts and backs together to make four double-sided bookmarks. For a Bible reading to accompany this activity, use Luke 10:25–37. The designs are listed as: Luke 10:30: The Man on the Road; Luke 10:31: The Priest Passes By; Luke 10:33: The Samaritan Helps; Luke 10:37: Go and Do Likewise.
Which pages should I print, and at what size?
The original PDF pages are A4 landscape. GoodSamaritan.pdf: print the pages you want to use for each learner or group. Print single-sided. On US Letter paper, select Letter and Fit or shrink to the printable area; the originals are not separate Letter-sized files. Keep matching construction pages at the same scale. Print both pages for the four front-and-back designs. If you choose duplex printing instead of gluing, test your printer’s alignment on scrap paper first.
What supplies and preparation does this need?
Paper or printer-compatible light card, colouring pencils, scissors and glue if you join the fronts and backs. Lamination is optional.
What help might children need with this activity?
Suggested ages: 6–12 years. Prepare the bookmarks if needed and read or discuss each verse together. Adjust this guide for the child’s reading and making skills.
