Printing tips

The story behind the craft

Bible passage: Matthew 2:1–12

Magi follow a star and ask where the king of the Jews has been born. They find the child with Mary, offer gifts and return by another way after a warning not to go back to Herod.

Main takeaway: The magi honour Jesus and respond carefully to a warning.

While you colour the panels

Read the panels in order, pausing at a change in a character’s action or understanding.

Identify the star, gifts and changed route. Matthew does not state that there were three visitors or place this visit alongside Luke’s shepherds at the manger.

Younger learners can describe an action in one panel. Older learners can compare a caption with its Bible passage and discuss what a short comic leaves out.

Questions to explore

  • What gifts were brought?
  • Why did the visitors change their return route?
  • How can paying attention to a warning protect others?

Common questions

What files are included in this download?

The download is a 1-page PDF: TheWiseMenVisitJesus_Mt2.pdf. This is the English edition. You print the files yourself; physical supplies are not included.

Is this a comic to read or a colouring sheet?

It combines both on one page: outlined comic panels with story captions. Read the panels in sequence, then colour and talk about the illustrated moments. It is a flat printable, with no paper mechanism to assemble. Printed captions include “They travel from the East, seeking the newborn King of the Jews” and “The Wise Men see a bright star and decide to follow it”.

Which pages should I print, and at what size?

The original PDF pages are A4 portrait. TheWiseMenVisitJesus_Mt2.pdf: print the page for each learner or group. Print single-sided. On US Letter paper, select Letter and Fit or shrink to the printable area; the originals are not separate Letter-sized files.
