Printing tipsThe story behind the craft
Bible passage: Matthew 17:1–9
Jesus takes Peter, James and John up a mountain, where his appearance changes and Moses and Elijah appear with him. A voice from the cloud calls Jesus the beloved Son and tells the disciples to listen to him.
Main takeaway: The mountain vision directs the disciples to Jesus’ identity and teaching.
As the picture changes
View the folded design from each side and compare the two images before explaining their connection.
Notice the three disciples, Moses and Elijah, the cloud and the voice. Keep the Transfiguration separate from the Cana miracle in John 2.
Younger learners can describe what changes as they move. Older learners can explain whether the images show a before-and-after moment or two parts of the same account.
Questions to explore
- Who went up the mountain with Jesus?
- What did the voice tell the disciples to do?
- How can listening lead beyond simply being impressed by an experience?
Common questions
What files are included in this download?
The download is a 3-page PDF: TheTransfiguration.pdf. This is the English edition. You print the files yourself; physical supplies are not included.
How do the two pictures appear?
Colour the picture strips, cut them out and paste them onto the backing in A–J order. Let the glue dry, then make the alternating accordion folds. Look from the left and right to see the two different pictures. The effect comes from the folds, with no screen or moving parts. The pictured scenes include: Jesus with His disciples on the mountain; Jesus shining in glory with Moses and Elijah.
Which pages should I print, and at what size?
The original PDF pages are A4 landscape. TheTransfiguration.pdf: print pages 1, 2 for each learner or group. Page 3 is the assembly guide, which can be shared. Print single-sided. On US Letter paper, select Letter and Fit or shrink to the printable area; the originals are not separate Letter-sized files. Keep matching construction pages at the same scale.
