God Feeds Elijah through Ravens

When Elijah announced a long drought, God sent him to a brook and cared for him there in an unexpected way.

1 Kings 17:1–7About 2 minutes
Let’s begin

Elijah the Tishbite brought a hard message to Ahab. He said that Yahweh, the living God of Israel whom he served, had declared that for years there would be no dew or rain except according to Elijah’s word. It was the start of a severe drought in the land.

What happened next

After that, the word of Yahweh came to Elijah. God told him to leave, turn eastward, and hide by the brook Cherith, which is before the Jordan. There Elijah would have water to drink from the brook.

What happened next

God also said that he had commanded the ravens to feed Elijah there. Elijah obeyed the word of Yahweh. He went and lived by the brook Cherith, just as God had told him.

What happened next

At the brook, God cared for Elijah day after day. Ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat again in the evening. Elijah drank from the brook while he stayed there.

The end

But this did not last forever. After a while, the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. The drought Elijah had announced was real. What do you notice about the way Elijah listened and obeyed?
