Isaac Is Born
God kept his promise to Abraham and Sarah, and they welcomed their son Isaac with joy.
The Lord cared for Sarah just as he had said he would. At the time God had spoken about, Sarah became pregnant and gave birth to a son for Abraham in his old age. What God had promised now happened.
Abraham named the baby Isaac, the son Sarah had borne to him. When Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, just as God had commanded. Abraham was one hundred years old when Isaac was born.
Sarah responded with joy. She said God had made her laugh, and that everyone who heard the news would laugh with her. The child God had promised had truly been born.
Sarah also said that no one would have expected her to nurse children, yet she had borne Abraham a son in his old age. The birth of Isaac showed again that God had done what he said.
Isaac grew, and the day came when he was weaned. Abraham marked that day by making a great feast. The story closes with a family celebration for the child God had given them.
