Mordecai Uncovers a Palace Plot
Mordecai learns of a plot against the king, and the warning reaches the palace through Esther.
This retelling follows the first Bible passage listed. A Greek version of this account is also identified in the source notes below.
In those days, Mordecai was sitting in the king’s gate. Two of the king’s eunuchs, Bigthan and Teresh, were doorkeepers. They became angry and sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus.
Mordecai came to know about this matter. He did not keep it to himself. He told Esther the queen so the king could be warned.
Esther then informed the king. She reported it in Mordecai’s name, making clear where the message had come from.
The matter was investigated, and it was found to be true. Bigthan and Teresh were both hanged on a gallows for what they had planned against the king.
After that, the matter was written in the book of the chronicles in the king’s presence. The warning, the investigation, and the outcome were all recorded before the king.
