Let’s begin

Tobias called Raphael, who was known as Azarias, and asked him to go to Rages in Media with a servant and two camels. He was to collect the money from Gabael and bring him to the wedding feast, because Raguel had bound Tobias to stay. Tobias was thinking of his father, who would be counting the days and grieving if he delayed too long.

What happened next

Raphael travelled to Gabael, stayed there, and showed him the written agreement. Gabael brought out the sealed bags and handed them over. Early the next morning they both went back to the wedding feast, and Tobias blessed his wife.

What happened next

Back at home, Tobit counted every day. When the expected time had passed and they still had not come, he wondered whether Tobias had been delayed, or whether Gabael had died and no one could give him the money. He was deeply grieved.

What happened next

Tobit’s wife feared the worst and wept for her son. She went out each day to watch the road they had taken and mourned through the nights. Tobit tried to quiet her and said Tobias was in good health, but she would not be comforted. When the fourteen days of the wedding feast were over, Tobias asked Raguel to send him home, because his father and mother no longer expected to see him.

The end

Raguel first offered to send word to Tobias’s father, but Tobias asked again to leave. So Raguel sent Sarah with him, along with half his goods, servants, cattle, and money, and he blessed them. Edna entrusted Sarah to Tobias with care. Then Tobias set out, blessing God for prospering his journey. Near Nineveh, Raphael urged Tobias to hurry ahead with him before Sarah, prepare the house, and keep the fish’s bile in his hand. The dog followed after them.
