Getting ready
Age & adult help
Following several illustrated panels and reading speech or story text adds a literacy demand to the colouring.
Read panels aloud and help children follow their order. Check the story and wording before using it with younger children.
What you’ll need
Printer, paper, colouring pencils or crayons. An adult reader may be helpful for younger children.
Time & preparation
One comic page, including colouring. Shared reading and discussion are additional.

Check the file before you print for a group, and allow for any extra help the kids might need.
Printing tipsThe story behind the craft
Bible passage: Joshua 6
Joshua follows God’s instructions as Israel marches around Jericho. On the seventh day the people shout and the walls fall; Rahab and her household are brought out as promised.
Main takeaway: Joshua’s account connects following instructions with keeping the promise to Rahab.
While you colour the panels
Read the panels in order, pausing at a change in a character’s action or understanding.
Put the marching, trumpets and falling walls in sequence. Include Rahab’s rescue, and do not turn the battle into a game about attacking other people.
Younger learners can describe an action in one panel. Older learners can compare a caption with its Bible passage and discuss what a short comic leaves out.
Questions to explore
- What instructions were the people given?
- What happened to Rahab’s household?
- Why is keeping a promise important even in a difficult situation?
Common questions
What files are included in this download?

Is this a comic to read or a colouring sheet?
It combines both on one page: outlined comic panels with story captions. Read the panels in sequence, then colour and talk about the illustrated moments. Printed captions include “God tells Joshua to march around Jericho for six days” and “Joshua and the Israelites arrive at the strong city of Jericho”.
Which pages should I print, and at what size?
The original PDF pages are A4 portrait. JoshuaandJericho.pdf: print the page for each learner or group. Print single-sided. On US Letter paper, select Letter and Fit or shrink to the printable area; the originals are not separate Letter-sized files.
