Printing tips

The story behind the craft

Bible passage: Genesis 6:9–9:17

Noah builds the ark as God instructs. His family and the animals survive the flood, and afterwards God makes a covenant with living creatures, giving the rainbow as its sign.

Main takeaway: The rainbow in Noah’s story is a reminder of God’s covenant.

As you arrange the scene

Discuss the characters and setting before placing the cut-out pieces on the background.

Put building, entering the ark, the flood, dry land and the rainbow in order. Distinguish the animals being rescued from the promise made afterwards.

Younger learners can name the people and describe their positions. Older learners can explain the moment being represented and distinguish the passage from choices made in the illustration.

Questions to explore

  • Why was the ark needed?
  • What happened before the rainbow appeared?
  • What does God promise in Genesis 9?

Common questions

What files are included in this download?

The download is a 2-page PDF: NoahsArkandGodsPromise.pdf. This is the English edition. You print the files yourself; physical supplies are not included.

What do children cut and arrange?

The two-page PDF provides the illustrated scene/background and separate cut-out pieces. Colour the pieces, cut them out and try their positions on the background before gluing the final scene. For a Bible reading to accompany this activity, use Genesis 6:9–9:17.

Which pages should I print, and at what size?

The original PDF pages are A4 landscape. NoahsArkandGodsPromise.pdf: print the pages you want to use for each learner or group. Print single-sided. On US Letter paper, select Letter and Fit or shrink to the printable area; the originals are not separate Letter-sized files.

What supplies and preparation does this need?

Paper, colouring pencils, scissors and glue. An adult can prepare smaller cut-outs so children can concentrate on choosing where each piece belongs.
