Printing tipsThe story behind the craft
Bible passage: Matthew 2:1–12
Magi follow a star and ask where the king of the Jews has been born. They find the child with Mary, offer gifts and return by another way after a warning not to go back to Herod.
Main takeaway: The magi honour Jesus and respond carefully to a warning.
As you arrange the scene
Discuss the characters and setting before placing the cut-out pieces on the background.
Identify the star, gifts and changed route. Matthew does not state that there were three visitors or place this visit alongside Luke’s shepherds at the manger.
Younger learners can name the people and describe their positions. Older learners can explain the moment being represented and distinguish the passage from choices made in the illustration.
Questions to explore
- What gifts were brought?
- Why did the visitors change their return route?
- How can paying attention to a warning protect others?
