Jesus Welcomes the Children

When people brought little children to Jesus, he welcomed them and blessed them.

Matthew 19:13–15; Mark 10:13–16; Luke 18:15–17About 2 minutes
Let’s begin

People were bringing little children to Jesus. Some even brought babies, hoping he would touch them, lay his hands on them, and pray for them.

What happened next

But the disciples tried to stop them. They rebuked the people who were bringing the children, as if the children should be kept back.

What happened next

Jesus saw what was happening and was displeased. He told them to let the little children come to him and not to hinder them, because God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these.

What happened next

Then Jesus taught something important. He said that anyone who does not receive God’s Kingdom like a little child will not enter it.

The end

Jesus did not send the children away. He took them in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them. After that, he went on from there. How does this story show the kind of people Jesus gladly receives?

A children’s retelling of Matthew 19:13–15; Mark 10:13–16; Luke 18:15–17. You can read the Bible passage together too.

Matthew is the lead account here. Mark and Luke add Jesus' teaching about receiving God's Kingdom like a little child, and Luke specifically mentions babies.
